New Testing, ILEARN, Begins April 22

Students in grades 3-8 will take Indiana’s new standardized test, ILEARN, beginning Monday, April 22.

Students will be tested in English/Language Arts and Math at all tested grade levels; fourth and sixth grades will also be tested on science; and fifth-graders will take the social studies test. The test is online and computer-adaptive, which means the assessment adapts to a student’s mastery of the content as they are taking the test. Each time a student answers a question, that response helps determine the next question asked. This allows the difficulty of the test to be adjusted for each student’s skill level, providing a better measure of each student’s knowledge.

As this test is different from ISTEP+, students have had the opportunity to take practice tests to prepare for the new state exam. Each school has established a testing schedule to allow all students to complete the exams between April 22 and May 17.
