Washington, Nebraska Plan End of Year Events Together
With the end of the school year approaching, Washington and Nebraska elementary schools will come together for events to assist in the transition as they become one school.
Declining enrollments at both schools resulted in Nebraska closing as an elementary school at the end of the 2015-16 school year. The majority of those students will attend Washington next year.
Already this year, Nebraska staff members have met with Washington staff members to get to know each other in preparation for next year. Nebraska students visited Washington in April for the school’s weekly Family Meeting. Afterward, students divided up by grade level for activities.
On Tuesday, May 17, Washington will have an open house for families to visit the school and learn more about the partnerships the school has built in the community to support students. Washington and Nebraska families are welcome from 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m.
On Monday, May 23, Nebraska students will walk to Washington for a combined field day. Students will leave Nebraska at 9:30 a.m. to learn a safe route to travel to their new school. The field day activities begin at 10:30 a.m. Students will eat lunch together at Washington and then finish the afternoon with additional field day activities. As a part of the day, students who have signed up for the Fort4Fitness Kids Marathon through the Kids Run the Fort program with receive their goody bag with Kids Marathon t-shirt, activity log and other items. Fort4Fitness selected Washington and Nebraska students as the recipients of the first Kids Run the Fort School Award, which allows students to register for the Kids Marathon for free.
