Terri J. Laurent Assistant Principal, Forest Park Elementary School Terri Laurent comes to FWCS from Southern Lehigh School District in Center Valley, Pa. where she was the principal of Liberty Bell Elementary School with 450 students, 60 full or part-time staff members and a Spanish Immersion program. Prior to taking that post in 2002, she had been an instructional support teacher with the district since 1992, coordinating the pre-intervention program for at-risk students in three elementary schools. She began her career in 1975 as a first-grade teacher in North Adams Community Schools, Decatur. She has also taught in Hockessin, Delaware and was chosen to create a program to provide support for students who tended to “fall through the cracks” in Easton, Maryland. Her bachelor’s and master’s degrees are from Indiana University.

With nearly 30,000 students, Fort Wayne Community Schools is one of the largest school districts in Indiana. FWCS proudly allows families to choose any of its 50 schools through its successful school-choice program creating diversity in each school, including some with more than 75 languages spoken. FWCS offers seven magnet schools focusing on areas such as science and math, communication, fine arts or Montessori at the elementary and middle school level. In high school, students can choose from the prestigious International Baccalaureate program, Project Lead the Way or New Tech Academy as well as other rigorous academic and specialty training programs.
