Fort Wayne Community Schools Board of School Trustees and administrators will be in the schools bright and early on Monday to welcome students to the 2005-06 school year. Following are highlights. Media are invited: * Superintendent Dr. Wendy Robinson and Board President Carol Coen will greet Geyer Middle School acting principal Mary Lowery, parents and students at the start of the day. This will be the last year that Geyer will be a traditional middle school. They will be available for media interviews beginning at 8 a.m., but media are invited to come early to catch students arriving at about 7:35 a.m. - middle school starting time is 7:55 a.m. Geyer is located at 420 E. Paulding Road. * Dr. Robinson and President Coen will go to Bunche Elementary School at about 8:30 a.m. to catch students arriving there. Elementary starting is 8:50 a.m. Principal is Tamara Lake. Bunche is located at 1111 Green St. Next year, Bunche and Geyer will become a preK-8 Montessori magnet program. * Board Vice President Geoff Paddock will visit Weisser Park Elementary School, 902 Colerick Ave. at 11:15 a.m. and Washington Elementary School, 1015 W. Washington Blvd. at 1:30 p.m. * Board member Carl Johnson will visit South Side High School, 3601 S. Calhoun St. at 9:15 a.m. * Board member Jon Olinger will visit North Side High School, 475 E. State Blvd. * Board member Bob Armstrong will visit Portage Middle School, 3521 Taylor St., to greet arriving students at 7:45 a.m. and then he will travel to Price Elementary School, 1901 W. State Blvd., to welcome students arriving there at 8:45 a.m. Media are also welcome at the following first-day highlights: * Weisser Park Elementary School Principal Carolyn Sleet will welcome teachers, students and staff in costume! What the costume will be is a secret, but the opening day theme is Weisser Park - Where Learning is a Fine Art. All of the students at Weisser Park have parental permission to be photographed. The school is located at 902 Colerick St. Students will begin arriving at about 7:30 a.m. for their 8:50 a.m. start time. * Washington Elementary School will kick off the second year of its unique partnership with the Downtown Rotary Club when Rotary volunteers serve up a special cake and ice cream party to students beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the school, 1015 W. Washington Blvd. Principal is Linda Martin. Rotary Club members have also donated book bags to students in the school.

FWCS proudly allows families to choose any of its 50 schools through its successful school-choice program creating diversity in each school, including some with more than 75 languages spoken. FWCS offers seven magnet schools focusing on areas such as science and math, communication, fine arts or Montessori at the elementary and middle school level. In high school, students can choose from the prestigious International Baccalaureate program, Project Lead the Way or New Tech Academy as well as other rigorous academic and specialty training programs.
