FWCS Employees Help Students Get Ready for a New Year
Fort Wayne Community Schools’ employees will pack 300 backpacks Wednesday, Aug. 7, with supplies, books and other items. The bags will be given to elementary school students who otherwise might not have new supplies to start the 2019-20 school year.
This is the 26th year the employees in the Grile Administrative Center, Catalpa Offices, Nutrition Services and others have put the bags together for FWCS students. The majority of the bags and supplies are purchased with money raised throughout the year by employees who make a donation each week to participate in Casual Day Fridays.
In addition, community organizations and individuals donate supplies to the project. After the bags are packed, they will be given to elementary school case managers, who will work with principals to distribute them discreetly to students in need. Those needing assistance with school supplies should contact staff at their child’s school. FWCS also works with a number of other outside organizations to assist students in need.
