NSHS holds party for kids surviving cancer
Staff and students of North Side High School are sponsoring their 19th annual Christmas Party for Kids Surviving Cancer and their families. On Sunday, Dec. 11 from 1-4:30 p.m. the newly renovated high school will be awash in holiday festivities! There will be a Christmas play, a visit from Magician Dick Stoner, face painting, Balloonatic Bob with his cuddly balloon critters, performances by the North Side strings and the brass ensemble along with the show choir. And, Santa will stop by to present all of the children surviving cancer and their siblings with gifts. Since 1986, North Side students have been planning, organizing and putting on this elaborate event that features lots of holiday fare along with the fun. Over 300 students and staff members contribute to this event, either financially or by volunteering - or both. Cancer Services of Allen County refers the families. This year, invitations have been extended to children who are at Riley Children's Hospital and St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. Forty families, including over 100 children will attend. Media are welcome at this event and at the following activities leading up to the Christmas party: * On Tuesday, Dec. 6, students will leave North Side by bus at 5:45 p.m. to go to the Coldwater Wal-Mart where they will shop for their adopted child who will be attending the party. The Coldwater store has donated $2,000 to this year's event. Students will be selecting gifts from 6-8 p.m. * On Thursday, Dec. 8, students will be in the NSHS Commons Area from 2:40-5 p.m. wrapping the gifts they purchased for the children. The school is located at 475 E. State Blvd. Principal is Charles DeFord. For information, contact Scott Borah or Don Wiley, teachers, at 425-7530.
