Fort Wayne Community Schools has mailed the 2006 School Catalog booklets to families of preschool through fifth- and eighth-graders. Copies are also available at schools and by contacting the Civic and Community Relations Department at 467-2110. The booklets contain information about each of the district's 53 schools, as well as applications for intra-district transfers. Enrollment in FWCS schools is based on space availability and maintaining the racial balance in that particular school. FWCS holds a public lottery to determine admittance to magnet and special program schools that have more applicants than spaces available. This year's dates for intra-district applications to be turned in and for lotteries are: Feb. 24 - secondary school application March 10 - secondary schools public lottery March 14 - elementary schools applications due April 19 - elementary schools public lottery Lotteries are held at 9:30 a.m. in the board room of the Grile Administrative Center, 1200 S. Clinton St., so anyone who wants to view the process is able to do so. For information, please contact Student Services at 467-2120.

With nearly 30,000 students, Fort Wayne Community Schools is one of the largest school districts in Indiana. FWCS proudly allows families to choose any of its 50 schools through its successful school-choice program creating diversity in each school, including some with more than 75 languages spoken. FWCS offers seven magnet schools focusing on areas such as science and math, communication, fine arts or Montessori at the elementary and middle school level. In high school, students can choose from the prestigious International Baccalaureate program, Project Lead the Way or New Tech Academy as well as other rigorous academic and specialty training programs.
