Parent training session set
Fort Wayne Community Schools Title I is hosting a Parents as Partners spring conference on Friday, May 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Pilgrim Baptist Church. Nearly 170 parents have registered for the event, which will feature training sessions on the following topics: Writing at Home; AYP, NCLB and Title I; Knowing your child's reading level; Reading with your child; Math at Home; ISTEP Reports; Fort Wayne Urban League's Read and Rise; Early Childhood Alliance's Paths to Quality and Allen County Public Library's reading programs. FWCS Title 1 program will be providing breakfast, lunch, child care and transportation. There will also be hourly give-a-ways which include book bags filled with educational tools to use at home, community donations such as hotel stays, Panera Bread and Georges International Grocery, books and other resources. Superintendent Dr. Wendy Robinson will be guest speaker at the luncheon provided by FWCS Food and Nutritional Services. Community organizations including Park Center, Fort Wayne Urban League, United Hispanic Americans and others will be displaying booths with useful parent information during that time as well. The event is for FWCS Title I parents. There will be sessions in Spanish and Burmese and all documents sent home with parents have been translated into these languages as well. Peter Yaruchyk, Title 1 District Parent Coordinator, school parent coordinators and Elizabeth Hodges, Title 1 program specialist are spearheading the event.
