A week ago, officials at Elmhurst High School received word that a second recent alumnus, Marine Lance Cpl. David GramesSanchez had been killed in Iraq. In late November, Army Cpl Jonathan Blair, 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, of the 101st Airborne Division was killed when a roadside bomb exploded near his Humvee. Both men currently have family in the school and there are many others at Elmhurst with military connections. The Elmhurst Student Council will conduct a memorial service in honor of both men on May 25 from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the school, 3829 Sand Point Road. Philip Shaull, Regional Director for Senator Lugar will read a statement from the Senator. A representative from Senator Bayn's office will also read a statement. The Peru Marine unit will bring full color guard and present the colors. It is expected that the Army will do the same. The Student Council will present a bench they will dedicate in honor of both men. Each parent and the wife will be presented a plaque from the Student Council. The service is open to family and friends of Elmhurst's Fallen Heroes. Media are welcome to attend. For information, please contact Barbara Gentry, principal, 425-7519.
