It doesn't look like a gymnasium... Students are placing binoculars around their neck and climbing to the top of bleachers to look at the sight below where other students are swinging on ropes; some resting on wooden swings; and some climbing up or moving from one pole to another in alligator alley. At another corner of the darkened gym is a fishing frenzy where older students are casting and landing bobbers in the pool. At another corner, student are racing each other to pick up bait - one at a time - and put in their bucket. Ugh! There's even a snake throw where students are playing horseshoes with the critters. This news release won't even go into the goings-on at Insect Island.... Fairfield Elementary School physical education teacher Mary Marks has turned the gymnasium there into a Rainforest where students will be exercising their math and reading skills along with their bodies. Media are invited to check it out between noon and 3 p.m. Monday, April 16 or Tuesday, April 17. For information, contact Sherry Britt, principal, at 467-5900. The school is located at 2825 Fairfield Ave.
