It's a secret! Fort Wayne Fire Division Captain Louis Roy will find out he has been selected as the Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year for the Maysville Road site during a ceremony to be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 24 at the Armory across from Northrop High School, 7001 Coldwater Road. Capt. Roy received over 1,000 votes for the honor and is in the running for the national Wal-Mart honor. He is a co-teacher for the Anthis Career Center Fire Science Academy. Superintendent Dr. Wendy Robinson and other district officials, along with representatives from the Fort Wayne Fire Division and Wal-Mart store co-manager Rick Bender and assistant manager Vett Welch will be at the ceremony. Media are invited.

With nearly 30,000 students, Fort Wayne Community Schools is one of the largest school districts in Indiana. FWCS proudly allows families to choose any of its 50 schools through its successful school-choice program creating diversity in each school, including some with more than 75 languages spoken. FWCS offers seven magnet schools focusing on areas such as science and math, communication, fine arts or Montessori at the elementary and middle school level. In high school, students can choose from the prestigious International Baccalaureate program, Project Lead the Way or New Tech Academy as well as other rigorous academic and specialty training programs.
