Teenage rapper Kelz will reward North Side students for their hard work on ISTEP+ this week with a free concert Friday. Kelz's hit "You Ain't Bout Dat" from his album "Main Event" hit number 7 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip Hop Single Sales chart and number 19 on Billboard's Hot Singles Sales chart. He often performs for students. Last year, he performed several times in the area raising 235,000 pounds of food for Community Harvest Food Bank. Friday's performance is part of "On The Green Day" at North Side hosted by the Renaissance Program. In addition to Kelz, live music will be provided by 'Trina Carson, Pato, and Dollah Jones. Rides and games will be donated by Three Rivers Federal Credit Union and Bob Mutton Rental. The event, which is free to North Side students, is to reward students for a job well-done on ISTEP+. School leaders are hoping to have 96 percent of the students required to take ISTEP+ or the GQE in attendance for the exams. They also wanted to focus on academics with a goal of no fights for the first 5 weeks of school –so far the goals have been accomplished. On The Green Day events, including the concert, start at 1:15 p.m. Kelz is expected to take the stage at 1:50 p.m. Media is invited to attend.
