Hundreds of parents are expected to attend the annual Title I Parents as Partners Conference from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 13, at Fellowship Missionary Church, 2536 Tillman Road. The conference is an educational opportunity focusing on academics, health and well-being, and how to get and stay involved in children's education. Parents from Fort Wayne Community Schools' 13 Title I schools (Abbett, Adams, Bloomingdale, Fairfield, Scott, Maplewood, Nebraska, Northcrest, South Wayne, Study, Washington, Kekionga and Miami) are invited to the free event. Information sessions include gang affiliation and drug use awareness, interpreting ISTEP+, literacy for little ones, supporting math and literacy at home, health care, dental care and more. Parents will receive books, games, book bags filled with school supplies, such as a scientific calculator for middle school-aged students, and other learning materials. There will also be door prizes. Child care is available for children from infants to four years old. Breakfast and lunch will be served, as well as snacks for the children.

With nearly 30,000 students, Fort Wayne Community Schools is one of the largest school districts in Indiana. FWCS proudly allows families to choose any of its 50 schools through its successful school-choice program creating diversity in each school, including some with more than 75 languages spoken. FWCS offers seven magnet schools focusing on areas such as science and math, communication, fine arts or Montessori at the elementary and middle school level. In high school, students can choose from the prestigious International Baccalaureate program, Project Lead the Way or New Tech Academy as well as other rigorous academic and specialty training programs.
