The Northrop High School Instrumental Music Parents Association will sponsor the 19th annual Barry A. Ashton Jazz Festival Saturday, March 15. This year's guest artist is flautist Greg Pattillo and his trio, Project. Sixteen high school and middle school bands, combos and jazz string groups will perform in three venues from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Greg Pattillo's clinic for all participating band members begins at 4:15 p.m. During the clinic, the top two honor bands will be announced. They will perform again immediately after the clinic at a concert beginning at about 5:30 p.m. Performance awards will be presented at that time. Student musicians will also have an opportunity to work with guest clinicians include Dr. Ferrell Vernon, Director of Jazz Studies at IPFW; Dr. Randy Mitchell, professional trombonist and Department Chair of Indiana State University Music Department; Gene Markiewicz, professional jazz drummer; Rick Brown, professional saxophonist and jazz educator; Dave Latchaw, professional pianist and jazz educator; and Mark VanCleave, professional trumpet player and jazz educator. Day show tickets are $5 for adults and $4 for students. The evening show tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students.
