Northrop High School students planning to attend inauguration events in Washington, D.C., in January will hold a dance marathon from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at the high school, 7001 Coldwater Road. A group of 36 students will to travel to Washington Jan. 19 and 20 to attend the inauguration ceremonies of President-elect Barack Obama. The students, who have taken Advanced Placement Economics, Government or U.S. History or Honors Government, hope to attend the Inaugural Parade and Speech and visit Washington attractions. The students hope to raise $10,000 during the dance marathon Saturday to cover the costs of the trip. Students will be accepting donations over the phone at 467-2300 or 467-2342. From 3-5 p.m., Northrop students with IDs will be allowed to watch the dance marathon and cheer on their friends. There will be a $2 fee for those who attend. In addition to the dance marathon, the students are also selling coupon books for $15. To purchase one, call the school at 467-2300.
