Fort Wayne Community Schools is giving parents one more way to communicate with the district. The Multilingual Information Line will improve communication between schools and home by offering parents somewhere to turn when they have questions. The information line (467-2009) will allow parents to ask questions or request information in English, Spanish or Burmese. During FWCS business hours (7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.), callers choosing the English line will automatically be directed to a receptionist. After hours, calls will go to a recorded message. Callers choosing the Spanish or Burmese options will go to a recorded message at all times with calls returned within 48 hours. "We hope this new resource helps parents obtain the information they need to support their child's educational goals, regardless of the language they speak," said Emily Schwartz Keirns, English Language Learners Coordinator. Letters were sent home to families this month explaining the new service and inviting parents to call.

With nearly 30,000 students, Fort Wayne Community Schools is one of the largest school districts in Indiana. FWCS proudly allows families to choose any of its 50 schools through its successful school-choice program creating diversity in each school, including some with more than 75 languages spoken. FWCS offers seven magnet schools focusing on areas such as science and math, communication, fine arts or Montessori at the elementary and middle school level. In high school, students can choose from the prestigious International Baccalaureate program, Project Lead the Way or New Tech Academy as well as other rigorous academic and specialty training programs.
