Fairfield Elementary Principal Sherry Britt will take over as principal of Whitney Young Early Childhood Center in a move approved Monday, April 27, by the Fort Wayne Community Schools Board of School Trustees. Britt started her career in education in Kansas City, Mo., in 1985, teaching first and second grades over six years. In 1991, she took a position with the FWCS Special Education Department, and in 1998, she became the assistant principal at Fairfield. A year later, she took over as principal of Fairfield. Britt's move to Whitney Young is effective July 1. She replaces Diana Parker, who resigned in December. Steve Ecenbarger has been filling in as interim principal since January and will finish the school year in that position. Whitney Young is part of the FWCS Summit Arts Magnet Program and serves children in pre-kindergarten and kindergarten.

With nearly 30,000 students, Fort Wayne Community Schools is one of the largest school districts in Indiana. FWCS proudly allows families to choose any of its 50 schools through its successful school-choice program creating diversity in each school, including some with more than 75 languages spoken. FWCS offers seven magnet schools focusing on areas such as science and math, communication, fine arts or Montessori at the elementary and middle school level. In high school, students can choose from the prestigious International Baccalaureate program, Project Lead the Way or New Tech Academy as well as other rigorous academic and specialty training programs.
