Students will have a four-day weekend this week, starting with a day off on Friday, Jan. 15. The day was reserved on the school calendar as an end of semester/make-up day. If FWCS needed to cancel a day of school because of weather conditions, Jan. 15 was built in as a make-up day. So far, that hasn't happened so students will not be in school. If, by chance, there is a cancellation between now and Friday, students will have to attend on Friday. Students are off on Monday, Jan. 18, for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Staff, including teachers, administrators and others, will be in the buildings on Friday, Jan. 15. Additional built-in make-up days are scheduled for May 14 and 28 and June 9.

With nearly 30,000 students, Fort Wayne Community Schools is one of the largest school districts in Indiana. FWCS proudly allows families to choose any of its 50 schools through its successful school-choice program creating diversity in each school, including some with more than 75 languages spoken. FWCS offers seven magnet schools focusing on areas such as science and math, communication, fine arts or Montessori at the elementary and middle school level. In high school, students can choose from the prestigious International Baccalaureate program, Project Lead the Way or New Tech Academy as well as other rigorous academic and specialty training programs.
