The Fort Wayne Community Schools Board of School Trustees on Monday, April 26, approved two administrative changes for the 2010-11 school year. Carrie Kennedy, Nebraska Principal Carrie Kennedy joined FWCS in 2001 as a math and science teacher at Lane Middle School. During the 2008-09 school year, she served as an administrative intern at Nebraska Elementary School and Memorial Park Middle School. During the 2009-10 school year, she has served as principal at Pleasant Center Elementary. Kennedy started her career in education as a seventh-grade science teacher at Indianapolis Public Schools and worked as a fifth-grade teacher for four years in MSD Pike Township. At Nebraska, she replaces Federa Smith, who is moving to Adams Elementary. Steven Townsend, Wayne High School Athletic Director Steven Townsend began his career in education in Muncie in 1984 and worked for several years at schools in Florida before coming to FWCS in 2002 as an assistant principal at South Side High School. In 2005, he moved to a principal position in Kokomo and returned to South Side as an assistant principal in 2006. In 2008, he became athletic director at Elmhurst High School. At Wayne, he replaces Tim Burton, who is moving to the athletic director position at South Side.

With nearly 30,000 students, Fort Wayne Community Schools is one of the largest school districts in Indiana. FWCS proudly allows families to choose any of its 50 schools through its successful school-choice program creating diversity in each school, including some with more than 75 languages spoken. FWCS offers seven magnet schools focusing on areas such as science and math, communication, fine arts or Montessori at the elementary and middle school level. In high school, students can choose from the prestigious International Baccalaureate program, Project Lead the Way or New Tech Academy as well as other rigorous academic and specialty training programs.
