The Fort Wayne Community Schools Board of School Trustees on Monday, May 9, approved several new principal appointments effective for the 2011-12 school year. Mark Bailey, Lane Middle School Mark Bailey joined FWCS in 1992 as a math teacher, spending the majority of his teacher years (1993-2004) at South Side High School. Bailey participated in the district's administrative intern program during the 2004-05 school year at Snider High School. He then worked as an assistant principal as Snider, South Side and, most recently, North Side High School. Alan D. Jones, Lakeside Middle School Alan Jones started his education career in East Allen County Schools in 2002. In 2005-06, he joined FWCS for the first time, teaching at Jefferson Middle School. He left the following year to become an assistant principal in Muncie. He returned to FWCS earlier this year as an assistant principal at North Side High School. At Lakeside, Jones replaces Mary Lowery, who served as interim principal this year. Trudy Grafton, Lindley Elementary School Trudy Grafton began her teaching career in 1989 in Bryan, Ohio. She joined FWCS in 2002 as an assistant principal at Harrison Hill Elementary. The following year, she moved to Forest Park Elementary, where she was assistant principal, and in 2004, she took over as principal at Study Elementary. At Study, she has been nationally recognized for improving collaboration among teachers in her building, and in October, she received a HOPE Award from the YWCA for Child Advocacy for her work at Study. At Lindley, she replaces Gerald Arthur, who is retiring after 28 years with the district. Brandon White, Study Elementary School Brandon White began his teaching career with FWCS in 2004 as a fifth-grade teacher at Croninger Elementary. In 2009, he became an instructional coach at Harrison Hill Elementary. This year, he participated in the administrative intern program, spending half the year at Forest Park Elementary and half the year at Harrison Hill Elementary. At Study, he takes over for Trudy Grafton, who is moving to Lindley Elementary. Kent Martz, Weisser Park Elementary School Kent Martz joined FWCS in 2004 as principal of Waynedale Elementary School. Prior to joining FWCS, he worked for six years in East Allen County Schools and eight years in Southwest Allen County Schools. At Weisser Park, he replaces John Key, who has taken a position in the Elementary Area Administration Office. Sara Wertman, Waynedale Elementary School Sara Wertman started her education career in Garrett as a special education teacher in 1992. The following year, she was hired by FWCS as a special education teacher at Weisser Park where she stayed until participating in the district's administrative intern program. During the 2009-10 school year, she served as an administrative intern at Haley Elementary School. She is currently the assistant principal at Haley. At Waynedale, she replaces Kent Martz, who is moving to Weisser Park Elementary.

With nearly 30,000 students, Fort Wayne Community Schools is one of the largest school districts in Indiana. FWCS proudly allows families to choose any of its 50 schools through its successful school-choice program creating diversity in each school, including some with more than 75 languages spoken. FWCS offers seven magnet schools focusing on areas such as science and math, communication, fine arts or Montessori at the elementary and middle school level. In high school, students can choose from the prestigious International Baccalaureate program, Project Lead the Way or New Tech Academy as well as other rigorous academic and specialty training programs.
