Students across Fort Wayne Community Schools will be recognized over the next two weeks for reaching a milestone in their educational careers finishing their elementary school years or their middle school years. Several schools also have programs celebrating the end of kindergarten. Schools will say good-bye to their fifth- and eighth-graders in recognition, culmination and award ceremonies. The ceremonies honor the work the students have accomplished in their current schools and celebrate the good things to come in their new schools. Several include punch and cookie receptions. Following is a list of the ceremonies happening before the end of the school year. All events are at the school unless otherwise listed. June 6 Forest Park Elementary will have its fifth-grade recognition night at 7 p.m. in the North Side High School Auditorium, 475 E. State Blvd. Students will be honored for their achievements. June 7 Harris Academy will have its fifth-grade recognition night at 6:30 p.m. in the Snider High School Auditorium, 4600 Fairlawn Pass. June 8 Fifth-graders at Abbett Elementary, 4325 Smith St., will be honored during a school program from 1:30-2:30 p.m. June 9 The fifth-grade recognition program at Arlington Elementary, 8118 St. Joe Center Road, will take place at 1 p.m. Fifth-graders will be honored at an award ceremony at Washington Elementary, 1015 W. Washington Blvd., 6 p.m. Fifth-graders at Franke Park Elementary, 828 Mildred Ave., will be recognized for their achievements during an awards ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Fifth-graders and their families are invited to a special celebration at 7 p.m. Washington Center Elementary School, 1936 W. Wallen Road. Students will be recognized for their accomplishments this year during the celebration and awards ceremony.
June 10 Nebraska Elementary, 1525 Boone St., will have a kindergarten celebration at 9:15 a.m. The celebration will include classroom, art, music and gym awards as well as a small musical program. St. Joseph Central will host its fifth-grade recognition program from noon-2 p.m. at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church. Irwin Elementary will have its annual Irwin Recognition Program at 9:25 a.m. at the school, 3501 S. Anthony Blvd. Community awards will be given at 10:20 a.m. followed by fifth-grade awards and completion certificates at 11 a.m. Following the program, fifth-graders will travel to McMillen Park to shoot off the rockets they made in science lab and enjoy lunch with their parents and classmates. The kindergarten celebration at Glenwood Park Elementary, 4501 Vance Ave., will be at 1:30 p.m. Fifth-graders at Haley Elementary, 2201 Maplecrest Road, will be recognized during a program at 1:30 p.m. Teachers will present students with awards for achievement in math, language, reading, science, social studies and more. The guest speaker will be Assistant Principal Sara Wertman, who will become the principal at Waynedale Elementary. Fifth-graders at Lincoln Elementary, 1001 E. Cook Road, will celebrate their culmination in a ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Fifth-graders at Maplewood Elementary, 2200 Maplewood Road, will celebrate their completion of elementary school during a program at 1:30 p.m. The fifth-grade celebration at Bloomingdale Elementary, 1300 Orchard St., will be from 2-3:30 p.m. Students will be recognized and honored for their hard work and dedication. The celebration will conclude with punch and cupcakes for the soon-to-be sixth-grade students. June 13 Fifth-graders at Weisser Park Elementary School, 902 Colerick St., will be recognized in a ceremony at 9:15 a.m. The fifth-grade celebration at Nebraska Elementary, 1525 Boone St., will take begin at 9:30 a.m. Awards will be presented for various student achievements, and the Artist of the Year will be named. Trophies will be awarded for attendance, citizenship and academics. The program will also include a small musical performance. The kindergarten celebration assembly at Harrison Hill Elementary, 355 Cornell Circle, will take place at 9:30 a.m. Fifth-graders will be honored at 10:30 a.m. The culmination ceremony for students in third, sixth and eighth grades at Towles Intermediate School, 420 E. Paulding Road, will begin at 9:30 a.m. Fifth-graders at Glenwood Park Elementary, 4501 Vance Ave., will be recognized during a program at 10 a.m. Kindergarten students at Lindley International Spanish Academy, 2201 Ardmore Ave., will celebrate the completion of their first year of school at the kindergarten recognition program at 10 a.m. Students will sing in both English and Spanish for their parents and demonstrate their ability to use both languages. Indian Village Elementary, 3835 Wenonah Lane, will host its fifth-grade culmination ceremony at 11 a.m. There ceremony will include a slide show featuring the fifth-graders throughout the school year. A reception will follow the ceremony.

With nearly 30,000 students, Fort Wayne Community Schools is one of the largest school districts in Indiana. FWCS proudly allows families to choose any of its 50 schools through its successful school-choice program creating diversity in each school, including some with more than 75 languages spoken. FWCS offers seven magnet schools focusing on areas such as science and math, communication, fine arts or Montessori at the elementary and middle school level. In high school, students can choose from the prestigious International Baccalaureate program, Project Lead the Way or New Tech Academy as well as other rigorous academic and specialty training programs.
