Fort Wayne Community Schools Requirements and Policies

We are proud of the quality of our programs. If after attending the first class, you are not satisfied, please contact our office within three business days of the first class and receive an NC credit for the course fee.

Returned Checks Policy

A $12 fee will be charged for returned checks. Unless payment is received promptly, all dishonored checks will be referred to the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Bad Check Restitution Program where additional fees and penalties will be assessed.

Neighborhood Connection

  • Neighborhood Connection is a FWCS program designed to provide adult enrichment classes by offering a wide variety of choices, interests, and hobbies.

High School Credit Classes (Day)

  • Must have Enrollment Referral form if referring HS is accepting credits (current HS students)
  • Must be at least 17 years of age and have Manager approval
  • Classes meet Tues and Thurs. 10 am - 2 pm (must attend a min. of 6 hrs each week)
  • Classes are $20 each plus any applicable fees
  • Can begin a class on any Tuesday or Thursday
  • Call 260-467-1060

High School Credit Classes (Night)

    • Must have Enrollment Referral form if referring HS is accepting credits (current HS students)
    • Must be at least 17 years of age and have Manager approval
    • Classes meet Tuesday and Thursday from 4 - 7 pm (must attend a min. of 6 hrs. each week)
    • Classes are $20 each plus any applicable fees
    • Can begin a class on any Tuesday or Thursday

ELL Adult Classes

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Must complete intake process, register online at: FWCS Adult Education ELL
  • Beginning, Intermediate & Advanced Levels
  • Classes meet M-F
  • Class Times: 8:00-9:50am or 10:00-11:50 or 12:45-2:35 pm
  • Evening class times offered as well, call for times.
  • Call 260-467-1068 for registration dates (program offers monthly registration)

Emergency/Weather School Closing & Postponement Policy

All day and evening classes are canceled if FWCS cancels regular school day classes due to emergency/weather. Should weather become threatening during the afternoon and evening hours, FWCS may cancel all evening activities and this will include Neighborhood Connection classes. In these cases, we may not have the opportunity to notify you of an evening class cancellation. Please watch or listen to local news stations if you are concerned, or you may call the Neighborhood Connection office, or check the status at Fortwayneschools.org. Occasionally, the scheduling of school-related activities will necessitate to postponement of certain classes. Whenever possible, all canceled classes and activities will be rescheduled.

Credits & Refunds

If you cannot attend a course as planned credit toward another Neighborhood Connection class will be issued when you notify our office of your cancellation three (3) days prior to the class start date. Your credit(s) may be used any time in the current semester or before the end of the following semester. No refunds or credits issued for missing class or after the class starts. Check refunds may take up to four weeks to process. If you contact NC on or after the date the program starts, you are not entitled to a transfer, credit or refund of any kind. NC reserves the right to change class locations, schedules, fees, instructors when necessary, including postponements due to inclement weather or emergencies.

English Language Learners (ELL)

ELL High School Credit Classes

  • Student attends day credit classes Mon.-Fri. 9:20 - 3:30
  • Must reside within FWCS boundaries
  • Must be 18 or older or referred through FWCS high schools
  • Eligible students are too old to attend HS or test so low in English as to not be able to make progress in high school ELL classes.

High School Equivalency Test Preparation Classes

  • Students must enroll online at: FWCS Adult Education
  • Day classes meet: Mon-Thurs 8-10 am or 10-12pm or 12:30-2:30 pm
  • Evening classes meet:
    • Tuesday & Thursday 5:00pm -8:00pm at Anthis
    • Monday & Wednesday 5:00pm -8:00pm at Ivy Tech Coliseum Campus
    • Tuesday & Thursday 4:00pm -7:00pm at Grabill Public Library
  • Students must be 18 or older (Under 18 must meet with Program Director prior to attending orientation)
