What Is Your Pathway to Success?

Students at North Side High School have access to 9 pathways to align their education to their interests and future plans. Each pathway is designed to provide students with both academic and real-world application to provide a well-rounded educational experienced designed to prepare them for their life after high school. 

 

Business Accounting

North Side students in the business accounting pathway learn to compute, classify, and record numerical data to keep financial records complete. Accountants typically perform any combination of routine calculating, posting, and verifying duties to obtain primary financial data for use in maintaining accounting records. They may also check the accuracy of figures, calculations, and postings pertaining to business transactions recorded by other workers.

Education Professions

North Side students enrolled in the Education Professions Pathway will immerse themselves into learning and teaching. This course of study includes, but is not limited to the teaching profession, learning process, planning instruction, and assessing learning, assessment, and instructional environments.

 Human and Social Services

North Side students who enroll in the Human and Social Services Pathway will gain experience in careers in human and community services and other helping professions. Areas of exploration include family and social services, youth development , and adult and elder care, and other for-profit and non-profit services. This project-based course will help students integrate higher order thinking, communication, leadership, and management processes to conduct investigations in human and social services.   Students will be introduced to human and social services professions through presentations from a variety of guest speakers, job shadowing, field trips and introductory and exploratory field experiences.

Business Management

North Side students who become business graduates learn to plan, direct, or coordinate the operations of public or private sector organizations. Duties and responsibilities for Business Management include formulating policies, managing daily operations, and planning the use of materials and human resources, but are too diverse and general in nature to be classified in any one functional area of management or administration, such as personnel, purchasing, or administrative services.

 Graphic Imaging

The North Side Graphic Imaging Pathway teaches students to create graphics to meet specific commercial or promotional needs, such as packaging, displays, or logos. May use a variety of mediums to achieve artistic or decorative effects.

TV Production & Radio

Students who enroll in North Side’s TV Production and Radio Pathway will spend substantial time learning the mass communications career field. Students will learn to speak or read from scripted materials, such as news reports or commercial messages, on radio, television, or other communications media. Students will prepare to talk on radio or television, interview guests, read news flashes, and select program content.

Computer Science

The North Side Computer Science (CS) Pathway prepares students for careers in several areas with Information Technology (IT) areas. This pathway allows students to develop the skills needed to transition into a university program, like the PFW CS program, or for an entry level position with a local company. Careers in IT are rapidly changing, and this pathway helps students to develop the foundational skills to launch post-secondary success with several areas of CS.

 High Honors

The High Honors Pathway is designed for North Side students who have a keen interest in developing high levels of capacity with the SAT in both mathematics and English performance. Students will have opportunities to take prep classes in both areas and will learn to set and monitor their own individual learning goals.

Vincennes

The Vincennes Early College Pathway is designed to support North Side students by increasing their opportunities for post-secondary acceptance. The Vincennes’s Early College Pathway centers on increasing high school graduation rates and college entrance. Areas of focus include the removal of major barriers to achieving post-secondary access and improving the transition from high school to college.
