A pre-kindergarten program is returning to Holland Elementary for the 2018-19 school year. Holland will be one of 18 Fort Wayne Community Schools locations accepting On My Way Pre-K grants next school year.

The addition of Holland as an On My Way Pre-K provider offers families wanting a northern pre-K location a high quality, half-day early childhood education option.

On My Way Pre-K is a program administered through the Indiana Family & Social Services Administration to make high quality pre-K options available to more families. To qualify for the grant:

  • A child must be 4 years old (but not yet 5) by Aug. 1, 2018;
  • A child must be a resident of Indiana;
  • Parents/guardians in the household must have a service need (working, going to school, attending job training); and
  • Families must earn less than 127 percent of the federal poverty level.

Fort Wayne Community Schools also offers half-day pre-K programs at Abbett, Bloomingdale, Brentwood, Fairfield, Forest Park, Franke Park, Harrison Hill, Scott Academy, South Wayne, Washington and Waynedale elementary schools. Students living in the Haley attendance area participate in the Brentwood program, and students living in the Price attendance area participate in the Washington program. In addition, full-day pre-K programs for 4-year-olds are offered at Adams and Study elementary schools and Bunche Montessori and Whitney Young early childhood centers. All locations accept On My Way Pre-K grants except for the programs at the early childhood centers.

“We are excited to return pre-K to Holland Elementary School,” said Katie Ziegler, Pre-K Coordinator for Fort Wayne Community Schools. “We know there are many parents looking for high quality programs for their children, and this gives them one more option. FWCS is committed to giving students a great start to their education.”
