For the third year, Fort Wayne Community Schools is offering a free, four-week program for middle and high school students to prepare for life after high school. For the first time, the program will also be offered to elementary students in third, fourth and fifth grades. Students are invited to sign up to learn more about preparing for college and future careers, understanding financial literacy and developing a well-rounded portfolio.

The program will be offered on four consecutive Saturdays, beginning Saturday, Oct. 20, and ending Saturday, Nov. 10, at the FWCS Family and Community Engagement Center, 230 E. Douglas Ave. Elementary students will attend from 8:30-10 a.m.; middle school students will attend from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.; and high school students will attend from 1:30-3:30 p.m.

“We are excited to add elementary schools to this program for the first time,” said Shenita Bolton, K-12 College and Career Readiness Manager. “It is important for students to start thinking about their future from a young age. While they don’t have to choose a specific path, we want them to have the tools to make good decisions. At each level we talk in an age-appropriate way about responsibility, study skills and managing finances. These topics get more specific at the high school level where we explore the processes of applying for colleges and completing the FAFSA and scholarship applications.”
