Congratulations Youth Life Skills 2018-2019 school year graduates! Great job to the 80 seniors (and counting!) who have completed their graduation requirements with us.

Youth Life Skills (YLS) was designed to assist in the prevention or discouragement of students leaving high school before they graduate. Youth Life Skills is an alternative to mainstream or traditional classroom structure. Youth Life Skills offers a non-traditional approach to education, focusing on the student as an individual and catching those who have fallen through the cracks. At Youth Life Skills we believe leaving school without a diploma negatively impacts the lives of individuals both their professional and personal. Youth Life Skills primary goal is to prepare students for lifetime achievement by creating an innovative and academically excellent school. Testimonials

Alayna - My homeschool is Northside High School. I came to YLS because things were not great for me attendance wise and it was hard to focus. YLS helped me a lot because it consists of more self-discipline and a more focused environment. I got more accomplished in three months then I did in half a year at my home school. The classes are peaceful and easier to understand. I am now on track to graduate and that is thanks to YLS. I like that you get all work and you can get it done at your own pace. I’m glad I came here and I definitely prefer it to my home school.

Anna - Youth Life Skills has been the saving grace I need in my life. As someone who struggles with many mental health problems and a learning disability, this program has proven to help me get through school and keep up with my work. If I was given the choice to return to my home school, but I turned it down for a chance to further my education at Youth Life Skills alongside the wonderful teachers and principal. I owe everyone running this program a huge thank you and a lifetime supply of happiness.

Joseph - I have been going to Youth Life Skills for a little while now and it has done so much for me. I came to YLS because it’s a lot harder for me to do things than others and it takes me a lot more time and I needed a more structured environment. I was 17 when I first came to YLS and because of Youth Life Skills I have been able to work enough to buy and own my own car.  That way, I don’t have to depend on anyone to give me a ride to and from school. Youth life skills has changed and affected my life so much and without it I wouldn’t be in the position I am in today.

Jentry - I think that this program is great. It’s a good way to get ahead of your work and complete school early. The teachers treat everyone here the same. They help you if you need help. It’s how every other school should be.

Logan - When I first got into YLS it was like a last resort and I was nervous because my school counselor said it was strict attendance and that was a big struggle for me with all my medical problems.  I just didn’t think I would be able to do it. Thankfully all that nervousness and anxiety immediately went away on the first day. This is easily the best school experience I’ve ever attended. Everyone here is super nice and friendly.  I was in a really rough spot in my life before getting in here and every day was just stressful because I didn’t think I’d be able to graduate, but thanks to this program and the wonderful people behind it, I know for sure now that I’m going to graduate. I am so thankful that I was given the opportunity to go here.

Mitchell - I love how the courses are self-paced at Youth Life Skills. When I first came here I thought that this school would be like any other school here to ‘’help me graduate’’ but it totally wasn’t. It is small, very centered around the students, and staffed with caring teachers. I absolutely love it. It’s such a stress reliever to know that my work isn’t going to pile up on me and to know my teachers really do care about me and my personal life. The last thing would be my principal- Mr.Outlaw. That man has the biggest heart in this world. On multiple occasions, he has given me money for lunch because I didn’t have it. So pretty much this is the BEST school I have ever grown to love.

Breece - I think that Youth Life Skills is a better learning environment! I personally have learned more here in a few weeks than being in a regular classroom. Here, I have learned things that matter and things that should be repeated rather than taught once. At Northrop all I remember doing is being rushed through projects and trying to be taught things that we won’t use in the real world like Hamlet. Also, I like that you know from the start exactly what needs to be done and that you move at your own pace. I like that it is quiet so you stay focused.

Myeka - I came to YLS to get out of school early, so I can further my business, ministry and venture into different areas of my purpose to be more effective to others. Being at YLS has given me the opportunity to do just that.  I can now get all my work done at my own pace to get out of school and start everything I want to do early. I find YLS to be a friendly-zone and very helpful. The staff helps students earn their credits and everyone makes sure we do our best at achieving good grades.

Grace - I came to YLS to better my education. I love coming here because the environment is so positive. I love the fact that the teachers are always there to help you when you’re in need of help. The staff is so nice and positive which makes learning a lot more fun.  Mr. Outlaw, our principal, actually associates with students, which I believe helps them too. Most principals don’t really speak to students unless they are in trouble but he talks to you no matter what. I never liked coming to school until I came here. I think this school is a really good and positive environment. I am grateful I am able to be here and have a chance to better myself and my education.

Madasyn - I started Youth Life Skills October 1st, 2018.  Youth Life Skills is a good program and I like the staff.  There is no drama and the quiet environment is the way I learn best. I like YLS and the staff here.  All of the teachers are more than willing to help you with your work and they actually care and show it. I was skeptical about YLS at first, only because it’s totally different from my home school. I have made new friends here.  I’m glad I made the switch and I want to stay here until I graduate.
